Raw honey benefits for pets are a new initiative for the state of Tennessee.
According to the Tennessee Department of Health, honey has been linked to an increased risk of contracting hepatitis, especially if used by dogs.
But in the past few years, the health department says it’s seen a spike in dog and cat owners adopting raw honey.
As of March 2016, the state had nearly 30,000 pet owners who used raw honey in their homes, and about 12,000 dogs and cats were using it in the same time frame, according to state data.
According a new state program, the Tennessee Humane Society is using raw honey to help homeless pets.
The nonprofit is partnering with the Knoxville-based Honey Chipotle to offer the free or reduced cost of raw honey for pet owners, including dogs and cat.
It’s a concept that’s been around in the US for years, and the program’s lead sponsor, Tisha Thompson, said it’s a way to get people on their feet again after a period of time when they weren’t.
“It’s been a real struggle for me, but I feel like I can do it,” she said.
“If you can’t find a job, and you’re not able to get out, it’s really hard to get through that.”
She said her group is offering the free honey to anyone who is willing to sign up for the program.
“We’re offering it to anybody who has pets, to anyone that is homeless, to people that are in shelters,” she explained.
Thompson said the program is not intended to replace any other pet-friendly food programs, but it’s intended to make the homeless a more normal part of life.
“For us, it was about helping people, and helping people who are homeless,” she told CNN.
“We were able to connect with people, get them food, get food to the animals, so it’s not just us that’s doing it.
We’re just helping.”
The nonprofit said the project was inspired by a study published last year that found raw honey may reduce the risk of hepatitis.
In Tennessee, dogs and people with dogs can also get free or discounted pet treats, which are similar to pet treats provided by the Humane Society.
The program also offers discounted pet food and other supplies, and has an annual membership fee of $5.
It’s a nonprofit, not a government program.
In addition to providing the honey for pets, the program also gives the honey to the needy.
The program is offering free or less expensive treats for pets in need.
It will not only help pets, but also help the state’s homeless, said Amy Williams, the director of the program at Tennessee Humane.
“If it’s your dog that needs a little extra help, you can help them with a little bit of honey and give them a treat,” she added.
“It’s really about being kind to the animal.”
